Biography
Meteorologist Matt Visscher was born and raised in Schenectady, NY, just outside of Albany. Matt knew at a young
age that he was interested in weather and would eventually pursue meteorology as a career. In high school, Matt
provided weather forecasts on the morning announcements and never turned back.

Matt pursued broadcasting at the New School of Radio and Television in Albany, NY and received his formal
education in meteorology at Mississippi State University in Starkville, MS.

Matt has done meteorology internships at WRGB, CBS 6 and WNYT, NewsChannel 13. The late 90s was a busy
and exciting time for Matt which launched his broadcasting career. In 1997, he was hired as a news producer at
AM 590 WROW where he would spend the next ten years working as a news writer, producer, reporter/anchor and
meteorologist. While at WROW, Matt went to work part-time at WTEN, Ch. 10 as a news assistant. Around the
same time, he was hired as a news writer for States News Service in Washington, D.C. In the late 90s, Matt went
back to school, graduating in 2002 from MSU's nationally-recognized Broadcast Meteorology Program. With
working in television also a dream, he pursued local opportunities and was hired in 2005 as a freelance meteorologist
at Capital News 9 where he continues to work today.

If that were not enough, Matt decided to start up a 24-Hour Weather Telephone service (357-HAIL) where callers
could get his latest forecasts. The phone service was a huge success. Then in 2004, in a strange twist of bad luck,
the phone system was destroyed thanks to a power surge from a thunderstorm. Then, in 2007, much to the urging
of family and friends, he relaunched the service.

Knowing that more and more people were getting their weather information online, in the fall of 2007, Matt
launched a Web site dedicated solely to local weather, a place Capital Region residents could visit to get his latest
forecasts, one that was easy to read and understand. He also launched a free local weather e-mail service (Weather
at a Glance) providing subscribers with his daily forecasts. Since then, hundreds of Capital Region residents have
signed up for
the service.

In the fall of 2008, Matt began providing weather forecasts to Talk 1300 AM and occasionally fills in as a guest
news anchor.

He is a professional member of the American Meteorological Society and National Weather Association.

In his spare time, Matt enjoys curling up to watch a good horror flick, TV crime and educational programming, and
is a sucker for cheesy reality shows. He loves to keep up on the days headlines, spending time outdoors and with
his family and friends who he is grateful to for the wonderful support they have given.

Matt enjoys hearing from others and welcomes your questions about weather, comments or suggestions. Feel free
